Bouncing Back from Feeling Stuck

One of my favourite quotes is “how we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” This quote really helps to reflect on the bigger picture of life: what does a good life mean to you? When you break down what a good life truly means; it is just a series of good days.

My favourite way to reflect on this quote is to visualize a future, where you feel harmonious and connected in your personal and professional life. Envision a typical day in your dream lifestyle and ask yourself:

What time did you wake up in this vision?

Do you have a structured routine or is everyday kind of different?

            Where are you living?

            Do you have a family?

What do you see around you?

How many hours do you spend working?

What do you wear to work?

What is your work environment like?

Do you have a lot of hobbies?

Who and what is truly important to you?

            How would you describe yourself?

Now, as you re-enter the present moment…

What are some obstacles or internal thoughts that are holding you back from living this lifestyle?

Is it the what if scenarios? Fear of failure? A lack of confidence?

Sometimes our thoughts can dismiss or pull us away from our values because we doubt our own abilities to succeed and lead a happy life.

Instead of striving for certainty and looking to be right, what if we lived a life in constant search of looking to be wrong? What if we learned how to chase these doubts and challenge them instead of accepting a belief that we ultimately just made up. When you are open to being wrong, you are on the path of growth and accepting to the possibility of change.

So, ask yourself: what do you really want to spend your time doing every day?

What are the small steps that could bring us closer to clarify that vision?

Growth does not occur in one grand action, rather it comes from the series of small choices every day that align with our values and vision.

Here are some tips to help you get closer to your goals:

1.     Journal your thoughts to inspire inner connection. Write down what you like about your current situation and the areas that you would like to change.

2.     Write down small goals and track your progress.

3.     Create a roadmap and pre-plan your days to dedicate time towards your self development.

4.     Connect with likeminded people! Try joining a club, volunteering, or attending community events to meet people that share the same interests or goals as you. This can help to inspire new ideas and build connection.

5.     Meet with a therapist, life coach or other specialist to enhance this reflection process and keep you accountable.
