Alannah Kavanagh
Student Therapist - MCP (IN PROGRESS)
Hi, I’m Alannah Kavanagh! I’m a Masters of Counseling Psychology student with a passion for working with people navigating life transitions. These are often periods marked by change and uncertainty, including new parenthood, evolving relationships, and identity shifts. I focus on helping clients slow down and make sense of their internal experience with the goal of finding steadier footing. I’m interested in how emotional experiences surface during these times, especially when things appear “fine” on the outside. My draw to counselling grew out of a personal sensitivity to these moments and a desire to better understand what people carry internally as they adjust to change.
A life where you trust your choices and feel connected to your inner guidance is possible.

I bring humour and a down-to-earth perspective to sessions, helping clients feel at ease while we engage in meaningful work.
I help clients notice patterns and make sense of recurring experiences.
What does a session with me look like?
Our sessions are guided by your needs while maintaining connection to the therapeutic goals we co-create. I attune closely to what’s happening for you and work to deepen your connection with your emotions. When I notice patterns in your thinking or behaviour, I will reflect them back to you to help cultivate a sense of understanding about recurring experiences or reactions. In any given session, we may explore emotions as they arise, examine relational dynamics, or discuss practical strategies to respond to challenges. Our therapeutic space is focused and respectful, with room for serious discussion and lighthearted, humorous moments.

My Approach
I approach therapy through an attachment lens. I pay attention to how people relate to themselves and others. I also draw on ACT, CBT, and EFT to support clients in noticing thoughts and feelings without getting stuck. I help people explore emotions as they come up and reflect patterns they might not see on their own. Sessions follow what is most present for the client while keeping our goals in mind. I focus on helping clients try new ways of responding and make changes that feel practical and manageable.
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
I help clients identify, tolerate, and transform emotions so they can respond to life with greater clarity and self-compassion.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
I use CBT tools to help clients notice unhelpful thinking patterns and experiment with new ways of responding.
Mindfulness-Based Approaches
Mindfulness is used to build awareness, emotional regulation, and a stronger connection to the present moment.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
I work with clients to pay attention to thoughts and feelings without getting stuck in them. Together, we focus on what matters most and take small, practical steps toward those values, even when emotions feel intense or messy.
