Lisa Dekker
Student Therapist - MACP (IN PROGRESS) Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
My path to psychotherapy has been long and winding. Changing careers mid-life wasn’t about starting over—it was about coming home to myself. It’s a reminder that it’s never too late to pause, reflect, and choose a path that feels more aligned with who you are and how you want to contribute to the world.Â
Along the way, personal experience has taught me what it means to endure loss, rebuild, and face myself with honesty. I believe therapy begins when you feel truly seen and heard—unapologetically, authentically you. Just show up as you are, and we’ll start from there.
My goal is to make our time together worthwhile — offering practical tools for day-to-day challenges while helping you understand yourself on a deeper level.

Working with Lisa Dekker
People tend to describe me as grounded, curious, and easy to talk to. I want our sessions to feel like a space where you can be real, learn something about yourself, and leave feeling lighter or clearer than when you arrived. My goal is to make our time together worthwhile — offering practical tools for day-to-day challenges while helping you understand yourself on a deeper level.Â
Worth mentioning
As clients decide who they want to work with for counselling, there’s lots to take into consideration! Here are some additional perks you should know of!
Our time together is relaxed and authentic — just honest conversation where you can be yourself, feel heard, and know you’re not being judged.
You’ll leave each session with something that sticks — a new perspective, a tool, or a strategy that feels doable and real.
We’ll explore what’s beneath the surface to uncover patterns, build awareness, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Â
What does a session with me look like?
In our sessions, you can expect a relaxed, down-to-earth atmosphere where you can talk openly and feel heard. We’ll slow things down, get curious about what’s really going on, and make space to notice patterns that might be keeping you stuck. I’ll offer practical tools and insights along the way, but mostly, it’s a conversation — real, honest, and centered on you.

Q: Favourite Saying?

Q: Ideal Vacation?
A: Anywhere with weak Wi-Fi.
Q: Hobbies?
A: Putting something in a safe place and then forgetting where I put it.
Q: Big Dreams?

My Approach
My approach is practical, honest, and rooted in methods that have been proven to help people make meaningful change. I value curiosity and collaboration — exploring both what’s happening in the moment and the deeper patterns that shape it. Sessions are conversational and focused, with space for insight, reflection, and tools you can use right away. I aim to help you uncover your own wisdom, build confidence in your choices, and create change that feels both real and sustainable.
Person-Centered
This approach offers a supportive space where you’re truly heard and accepted. We’ll explore your past and present experiences to better understand patterns in your thoughts, feelings, and relationships—helping you make sense of things and move toward lasting change.
Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT)
CBT helps you notice and shift unhelpful thought patterns that may be affecting how you feel or act. It’s a practical, goal-oriented approach that gives you tools to better manage stress, anxiety, and other challenges in everyday life.
Psychodynamic
This approach focuses on how your past experiences and deeper emotional patterns may be shaping how you feel and relate to others now. By bringing more awareness to these patterns, you can better understand yourself and create lasting change.
Emotion-Focused (EFT)
EFT helps you get in touch with your emotions, understand what they’re telling you, and work through them in a supportive space. It’s about making room for your feelings—especially the difficult ones—so they can guide healing and change.
