Mercadez Melancon
Student Therapist - MACP (IN PROGRESS) Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Hello! I’m Mercadez, a student psychotherapist and a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). While I originally aimed to become a dietitian specializing in eating disorders, my path took a different turn when I received an unexpected offer to study psychology. This shift has been one of the most rewarding surprises of my life, and I’m grateful for the opportunity every day. It led me to uncover a deep passion for supporting others on their journey to healing and self-discovery.
During my bachelor’s degree, I worked as a shelter support worker at a women’s shelter, an experience that profoundly reinforced my desire to help others. Being part of their journey—from day one, through their struggles, to the final day when they left the shelter with renewed strength—was both inspiring and fulfilling. I witnessed firsthand the incredible transformations people can achieve when they receive the right support, and it only strengthened my commitment to this field.

My goal is to help you find strength and clarity on your journey to well-being and bouncing back!

Working with me
Working with me means being in a safe, non-judgmental space where you’re encouraged to explore your thoughts and feelings openly. My goal is to help you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make meaningful changes in your life. By the end of each session, I hope you leave with a sense of clarity, relief, and confidence in your ability to move forward.
Worth mentioning
As clients decide who they want to work with for counselling, there’s lots to take into consideration! Here are some additional perks you should know of!
I get feedback from my clients that I have a very warm and approachable presence that makes them feel safe and at ease. I have a very down-to-earth and non-judgmental attitude that makes people feel like they can open up and share whatever is on their mind and heart.
I believe that our personal issues are interconnected, so I take a very holistic approach that considers all parts of you. I will ask you questions about your physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual health in order to get to the root of your suffering and provide comprehensive solutions.
I understand that what might work for one person might not for another. Thus, adaptability is crucial to my approach while cultivating a supportive relationship and effective treatment plan that speaks to your needs and therapeutic objectives. Whether it’s scheduling appointments, choosing session formats, or exploring specific topics that are important to you, I am committed to finding the approach that works best for your individual journey.
What does a session with me look like?
In a session with me, you can expect a warm, supportive atmosphere where we work together to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I often use a blend of therapeutic approaches tailored to your unique needs, whether that’s through open conversation, structured assessments, or mindfulness techniques. We’ll collaboratively set goals and reflect on your progress, ensuring the pace feels right for you. My aim is to create a space where you feel comfortable, understood, and empowered to engage in your healing journey.

My approach
My approach to therapy stems primarily from a trauma-informed and psychodynamic lens while utilizing other modalities based on your individual needs and goals.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT can be used to help understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours as they relate to your struggles and to develop practical techniques to change behavioural patterns.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
An approach that helps us to accept our thoughts and emotions, instead of judging or repressing them. It involves figuring out what we value most in life and checking in to see if our behaviours are in line with the person we want to be.
Polyvagal/Trauma Focus
Trauma can be thought of as a unique type of emotional learning that impinges upon our experience. Trauma-focused therapies involve the brain fully processing traumatic events in order to allow the nervous system to return to equilibrium.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
DBT helps clients accept the ‘opposite’ parts of themselves. This approach helps clients learn emotional regulation skills along with other practical skills to help build a ‘life worth living’.
