What is Brainspotting therapy?

Ever feel like your brain is hoarding old stuff like a messy attic? You’ve tried talking it out, but some things just won’t budge. That’s where Brainspotting comes in! Think of it as a brain hack – helping you process deep stuff that talk therapy alone can’t quite reach. Like your brain’s built-in GPS, it knows exactly where to go to help you heal.

The coolest part? Brainspotting plays well with other therapies, making them even more effective. So, how does it work? With a trained Brainspotting therapist, we follow your eye movements and body reflexes to spot where stress or trauma is hanging out. Once we find it, your brain takes over and starts the healing process naturally – like a reset button for your nervous system.

Curious? Let’s chat and see if Brainspotting is your next best step!

What happens in a Brainspotting therapy session?

Set the vibe first – we’ll get comfy! Brainspotting works best when you feel safe and supported, so we’ll start by making sure you’re in a relaxed, cozy spot. Pop on some soothing bilateral music (your choice!), and we’ll chat about what’s been weighing on you. As we do, emotions, memories, or even physical sensations might come up – totally normal!

From there, we’ll check in on how intense those feelings are and use that info to figure out the best way to help your brain do its thing. By tracking subtle reflexes in your face, body, and eyes, we can pinpoint where that stress or trauma is hanging out. Then, with focused mindfulness, you’ll simply tune into that spot, think about the issue, and – believe it or not – just let your brain do the work!

Each session is totally unique, and there’s no right or wrong way to experience it. The goal? To help you feel lighter, more at ease, and speed up your natural ability to heal.

Sound good? Let’s give your brain the reset it’s been looking for!

Who/what isn't Brainspotting for?

Is brainspotting right for me? Great question! Everyone’s journey in therapy is different, and the best approach is one that fits you. While Brainspotting can be an amazing tool, it might not be the perfect starting point for everyone – especially if focusing on body sensations or mindfulness feels extra tricky right now.

But don’t worry! If that sounds like you, we’ve got options. With a trained therapist, we can start by building up grounding skills, emotional regulation, and mindfulness techniques so that when (or if) you’re ready, Brainspotting feels like a safe and supportive next step. No rush, no pressure – just whatever works best for you at your pace. Want to explore what might work best for you? Let’s talk!

So...what might a Brainspotting session feel like?

Think of it like a workout – but for your brain. During a session, your mind might dig up old memories, emotions, or physical sensations you haven’t thought about in a while. It’s totally normal (and kind of amazing) how your brain knows exactly what to do when given the space.

Some folks say they feel a bit zoned out or even sleepy after – it’s like your brain just did a deep-clean and needs a nap. That’s all part of the process. We’ll go at your pace, and you’ll have support every step of the way.

How did Brainspotting even become a thing?

Brainspotting started with a skater, a stare, and a big “aha” moment.

While working with a figure skater, Dr. David Grand – trauma therapist and all-around curious guy – noticed her eyes locking onto one spot…and suddenly, things started to shift. That moment sparked Brainspotting.

Since then, it’s helped everyone from pro athletes to trauma survivors – with our skilled therapists guiding the way, you just might be next!
