Teen Therapy
Being a teen isn’t easy. Between school stress, family drama, and figuring out friendships, it can feel like
everything is just too much. You might feel like no one really “gets” what you’re going through, and
maybe you’re tired of hearing people say, “it’s just a phase” or “things will get better.” At Rebound Total
Health, we get it—and we’re here to help.
Our therapy sessions are different. We make it fun, relaxed, and even a little goofy. You don’t have to sit
in some stuffy office and spill your guts if you don’t want to. We know how to connect with teens and
make therapy a place where you actually want to come back week after week. But most importantly, we
help with the real stuff you’re dealing with, whether it’s anxiety, depression, ADHD, or conflicts with
friends and family.
Therapeutic Support for Children & Adolescents can help with….
School Issues
Is your child struggling in the school system? Are they struggling socially, educationally or can’t seem to focus or listen? Learning struggles or attention problems can make school especially difficult and stressful for children. Beyond just good or bad grades, there are several ways you can identify school-related struggles in your children. Perhaps your child or teen refuses to go to school, spends excessive time on homework assignments, acts out at school, or has abrupt changes in their eating or sleeping habits. With a previous career working in education, our youth and adolescent therapist is well equipped to help you and your child navigate any school related struggles they are facing.
Developmental Struggles
Do you feel that your child is perhaps not meeting their expected developmental milestones? Have you noticed a delay in their cognitive, language or social skills? Perhaps your child has been diagnosed with a developmental struggle such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). At Rebound Total Health, we are firm believers that children don’t need ‘fixing.’ We simply have to take a different route to help them thrive, and we’re excited to take that route with you!
Emotional Struggles & Mood Disorders
Is your child acting out? Have they become avoidant, angry, shy, stressed out or a overly excitable? Children don’t have the words or cognitions to identify and describe what they’re going through, making emotional struggles and mood disorders hard to decipher. Whether it every day emotions or mood disorders like anxiety or depression they are struggling from, therapy for children and teens helps them identify, process and work through their emotions in a healthy way.
Therapy for Families & Parenting
When working with children and teens, support of parents and family is a huge help in furthering the progress made in therapy and enhancing your childs’ new skills. The more involved families are, while maintaining a confidential and therapeutic environment for your child, the better. Whether you need help from the parenting perspective or simply want to know how to best support your child, we’re happy to help.
What happens in a child/teen therapy session?
Every child and teen is different and will be receptive to different approaches. Rest assured, depending on the age of your child and their comfortably level, our child and youth therapist tailors the work they do to the suit your child. Here are some of the things you can expect in a child or teen therapy session!
Talk
Talking together is a great way for child and counsellor to build rapport, get to know one another and foster a safe, positive space to do therapy work. By providing a judgement free, open place to talk, children and teens are more ready to learn when they felt heard.
Play & Activities
Therapists use games, drawing and virtual activities suited to the age range of your child. Through play, the therapist is able to make connections with the child and teach them concepts they perhaps may not be able to comprehend with words alone. Activities can be used to explore a child’s feelings, learn new coping skills or face their fears. Activities help keep children engaged and make therapy, fun.
Animal Assisted Interventions
At Rebound Total Health, we welcome children and teens to bring their pets to their virtual therapy sessions. Even virtually, animals add an extra layer of comfort and familiarity. Therapists are able to use animals to help children identify and work through difficult emotions or experiences.
Practice New Skills
A therapist might help teach children and teens new skills such as mindfulness, calming techniques or simply just new strategies to help them do life. The therapy sessions are a great place for children to practice these new skills in a safe, supportive environment.
Solve Problems
Your therapist will work with the child, the parents and the family to identify the problems and set collaborative goals for therapy. We get the children involved in finding new, creative and effective solutions to the problems they’re facing. In stead off ‘telling,’ we work alongside the child to discover new alternatives and solutions.
