Therapy for Trauma & PTSD

Online ADHD Therapy Therapy for Self Esteem

Trauma hurts. Let us help you work through it.

Maybe there’s that annoying loop of thoughts you just can’t shake. Or those surprise moments when your heart races or your palms get sweaty for no obvious reason. Heck, maybe you didn’t even realize you were carrying some heavy stuff until now – especially after doing some personal growth and hitting a deeper snag.

Whatever your story, we get it. Sometimes trauma sneaks up on us, and that’s okay. The good news? There’s a way forward, and you don’t have to do it alone.

What’s a trauma response?

Sometimes life throws stuff at us that’s just too much to handle all at once.

When that happens, our brains get a little stuck – they tuck away the memory in a weird, unhelpful way. Then, whenever something triggers it, boom! Those feelings and thoughts hit you like it’s happening right now all over again.

Dealing with tough memories, anxiety, shame, guilt, or fear can leave you feeling all kinds of yucky – scared, down, lonely, and maybe even unsure if you can trust anyone. Trauma can crash over you like waves or hang around like an unwanted guest.

Either way, living stuck in trauma mode? Yeah, no one signed up for that.

Therapy to Support Trauma

When trauma and PTSD show up, our expert therapists at Rebound Total Health are ready to guide you through it – with care and know-how.

One of our go-to tools  is EMDR – a fancy name for a powerful method that helps your brain process tough memories without you having to rehash every painful detail. It taps into your mind’s natural ability to heal, so those heavy feelings lose their grip.

We also use Brainspotting, a body-based approach that helps locate where trauma is “stuck” in your brain and gently helps  it move on.

The best part? Healing doesn’t mean reliving your story on repeat. We make sure you have all the tools and coping skills to stay safe and grounded throughout the process.

Bottom line: we’ll find the right approach that fits you and helps you move forward – on your terms.

Symptoms of Trauma & PTSD

Trauma and PTSD don’t come with a one-size-fits-all label. Everyone’s experience is totally unqiue, no matter where you are in life. What feels overwhelming to one person might look different for someone else. Plus, trauma symptoms can be sneaky – they often mimic other issues, making it tricky to sort out what’s what. Need a quick cheat sheet? Here’s a list of common symptoms to keep an eye on:

  • Shock, denial, or disbelief
  • Confusion, difficulty concentrating
  • Anger, irritability, mood swings
  • Anxiety and fear
  • Guilt, shame, self-blame
  • Withdrawing from others
  • Feeling sad or hopeless
  • Feeling disconnected or numb
  • Insomnia or nightmares
  • Fatigue
  • Being startled easily
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Racing heartbeat
  • Edginess and agitation
  • Aches and pains
  • Muscle tension

What can cause trauma & PTSD?

Trauma isn’t just the “big stuff” like war or natural disasters – though those are definitely major players.

Sometimes, it’s the sneaky, less obvious stuff that packs a serious punch – like losing someone you love, getting bullied, or dealing with harassment. Think of trauma as anything that throws your brain’s coping skills out of whack.

And here’s the kicker: a lot of times, we don’t even realize our brain and body have been through something traumatic until later on. It’s like a surprise guest showing up uninvited!

What does trauma do to the brain?

Trauma is tricky, and there’s no one “right” way to understand it.

One helpful way? Think of your brain as having two parts: the
human brain (all about logic, creativity, and feelings) and the animal brain (the one that handles survival stuff like fight or flight).

When trauma shows up, your human brain might tap out for a bit (hello, dissociation), leaving the animal brain running the show to keep you safe. That’s why you might feel super on edge or have emotions that seem all over the place.

Our job? Help get your human brain back in the game – stay in control, calm down the animal brain and teach your brain it’s okay to relax and feel safe again. Over time, this helps you stop getting stuck in fight-or-flight mode and start feeling more like you again. Our goal together: You can finally stop living in constant alert mode and start chilling like your awesome self!
