The importance of Self -Care - Rebound Total Health.

Therapy for Teens

Being a teen isn’t easy. Between school stress, family drama, and figuring out friendships, it can feel like everything is just too much. You might feel like no one really “gets” what you’re going through, and maybe you’re tired of hearing people say, “it’s just a phase” or “things will get better.” At Rebound Total Health, we get it—and we’re here to help with therapy for teens.

Do You Feel Like This?

You might be feeling:

  • Stressed out about school, grades, or what’s going to happen after high school.
  • Anxious about social situations, always worrying what others think of you.
  • Sad or down a lot of the time, even if you don’t know exactly why.
  • Frustrated because your parents don’t understand you, and you keep clashing with them.
  • Pulled in different directions by friends or feeling like you don’t fit in.
  • Struggling with focus or impulse control, like you just can’t get organized or think things through
    before they happen.

It might feel like you’re the only one going through this, but you’re not. So many teens face these challenges, and you’re not alone.

Therapy Designed for Teens

Our therapy sessions are different. We make it fun, relaxed, and even a little goofy. You don’t have to sit in some stuffy office and spill your guts if you don’t want to. We know how to connect with teens and make therapy a place where you actually want to come back week after week. But most importantly, we help with the real stuff you’re dealing with, whether it’s anxiety, depression, ADHD, or conflicts with
friends and family.

How Therapy Can Help You

At Rebound Total Health, we make therapy a place where you can just be yourself. You don’t have to fake it or pretend everything is fine if it’s not. We get that sometimes life feels overwhelming, and we’re here to help you sort through it. We’ll help you:

  • Get a handle on your anxiety so it doesn’t control you.
  • Manage stress from school, relationships, or whatever else is weighing on your mind.
  • Figure out how to handle conflicts with your family or friends in a healthier way.
  • Develop better focus and impulse control so you don’t feel like everything’s slipping through your fingers.
  • Boost your confidence so you can stop doubting yourself and start feeling better about who you are.

We understand the pressures teens face today, and we know that sometimes things can feel like too much. But we also know that things can get better, and therapy is a safe, private space where you can talk about what’s really going on.

Talking to Parents: How We Help Your Teen

As a parent, it’s difficult to watch your teen struggle. You want to help, but sometimes it feels like everything you say is met with resistance or shutdowns. At Rebound Total Health, we work with teens in a way that meets them where they are, using a fun, engaging approach that helps them open up, even if they’re initially hesitant about therapy.

We help teens work through issues like:

  • Anxiety: Whether it’s social anxiety, test anxiety, or constant worry, we give teens the tools to manage overwhelming feelings.
  • Depression: We help teens navigate feelings of sadness, isolation, and emotional numbness, so they can regain their energy and interest in life.
  • Impulse Control & ADHD: Teens with ADHD or impulse control challenges often struggle with focus and decision-making. We offer strategies that improve organization and help them think before acting.
  • Family & Peer Relationships: We guide teens through conflicts with family members or friends, helping them develop communication skills and healthier relationships.
  • Life Transitions: Whether it’s dealing with a family divorce, moving schools, or navigating friendship changes, we support teens through difficult transitions.

Our goal is to create a space where your teen feels comfortable and understood, while also providing them with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges. We also support families, helping you better understand your teen and how to provide the right kind of support.

Frequently Asked Questions about Teen Therapy

Not everything you say in therapy gets repeated to your parents.

Privacy is actually a pretty important part of being able to talk honestly. Your therapist will explain confidentiality at the beginning, including what stays private and the specific situations where they may need to share information for safety or legal reasons.

Parents: this means you probably won’t get a full recap in the car afterward.

Teens: this also means you should know the rules before you start talking.

Fair.

Sitting in a room with a stranger because your mom thinks you “need to talk to someone” may not have been how you planned to spend your Tuesday.

You can tell your therapist you don’t want to be there. Seriously. That’s a perfectly reasonable place to start.

We’re also not going to spend 50 minutes staring at you waiting for you to reveal your deepest feelings. You can talk about what your parents are worried about, what’s actually bothering you, or why you think this whole thing is unnecessary.

Honestly? Anything.

School, friends, dating, your parents, anxiety, the concert you went to last weekend, the song you’ve had on repeat for three weeks, sports, gaming, hobbies, whatever you’re currently obsessed with.

And therapy doesn’t have to mean sitting on a couch talking about your feelings for 50 minutes straight. We can play a game, do something creative, go for a walk, listen to music, work on something together or just talk about regular life while we get to know each other.

Some sessions will get into the heavier stuff. Some won’t.

You can also show up and say, “I have literally nothing to talk about today.”

Cool. We’ll figure it out.

Ah yes, “I’m fine.”

A famously detailed report from a teenager.

Parents often notice changes before they know what’s causing them. Your teen seems more withdrawn, more irritable, stops doing things they normally enjoy, grades change, friendships change, or something just feels different.

You don’t have to know exactly what’s wrong before reaching out. In fact, your teenager might not know either.

It depends on the teen’s age, situation, goals and what everyone agrees will actually be helpful.

Sometimes parents are involved more. Sometimes the teen meets mostly one-on-one with their therapist. There may be times when everyone comes together to work on something specific.

Your therapist will talk through how parent involvement and confidentiality will work rather than leaving everyone to guess.

It can.

Sometimes teenagers will tell a therapist something they absolutely will not tell their parents.

Not because their parents have done anything wrong. A therapist is simply different. They’re not going to ground them, lecture them, panic, call Grandma, or bring the conversation back up at breakfast tomorrow.

And no, the therapist’s job isn’t to extract all the information and secretly report it back to you.

This is genuinely hard to tell sometimes.

Teenagers can be moody. They want more privacy. Their sleep schedules make absolutely no sense. They can spend an impressive amount of time in their bedrooms. And occasionally their parents become the most embarrassing people to have ever existed.

We’re usually paying attention to changes and how much something is affecting everyday life.

A teenager wanting more space is one thing. A teenager suddenly withdrawing from everyone, quitting activities they love and barely functioning at school deserves a closer look.

Absolutely, because a huge chunk of teenage life now happens online.

Friendship drama follows you home. Someone posts something about you. You’re left out of a group chat. Everyone else’s life looks better than yours. You’re checking Snap Map. You’re comparing your body to people who may not even look like their own photos.

Adults love saying “just put your phone down” as though that magically removes the entire social world attached to it.

We can be a little more realistic than that.

Yep.

For some teens, virtual therapy is actually easier. They’re in their own space, they don’t have to travel anywhere and talking through a screen can feel less intense than sitting across from someone in an office.

Other teens concentrate better in person or like having somewhere separate to go.

Rebound offers both virtual therapy and in-person appointments at our Dundas office, so pick what actually works for your teen.

Find a different therapist.

Seriously.

Therapists are people. Your teenager isn’t going to click with every single one, and forcing them to keep seeing someone they don’t trust or connect with isn’t particularly useful.

Sometimes it takes a session or two to get comfortable. That’s different from consistently dreading the therapist themselves.

We have a large team for exactly this reason. Nobody’s feelings need to be hurt.
