Questions About Starting Therapy

  • A therapy consultation is an opportunity for you to meet with a consultation counsellor, free of charge for 15 minutes. The consultation counsellor will ask you some basic questions about what’s going on, what you’re looking to work on in therapy and discuss any preference you may have. They will also discuss all the practical pieces of therapy with you such as finances and availability. Of course, if you have any questions whatsoever, they are there to answer them! We will use the information you provide to find the right fit therapist for you!

  • No problem! If you have an idea of who you want to work with or have been referred to someone specific, email us at inquiry@reboundtotalhealth.ca and if your preferred therapist is accepting clients, we’ll get you connected!

  • You and your therapist will discuss the rate per session. Payment is due at the end of each session and you can pay via e-transfer or credit card. Once your payment is received, you will be emailed a receipt that will include all the details required for you to submit it to your insurance company for reimbursement.

  • Many extended health insurance plans cover psychotherapy services while others do not. At this point, we don’t bill insurance companies directly. Please speak to your insurance provider in advance to determine your eligibility for coverage of a Registered Psychotherapist or a Registered Social Worker.

  • We are primarily a virtual practice so all of our therapists offer virtual and telephone therapy services. A select few of our therapist offer secure messaged-based therapy (text therapy) and some offer “walk-n-talk” therapy services in select locations. Not sure if virtual is “your thing?” We get it! We’ve received lots of great feedback about our virtual options! We recommend trying a no obligation, 15-minute free consultation to see if it’s something you’re comfortable with!

  • A typical therapy session will last 50-minutes. However, your therapist will work with you to determine the best session duration for your needs. Our child and youth therapists offer 30-minute session for children, and for couples or family sessions some of our therapists offer longer, 75-minute sessions.

  • The fee of your session will depend on which therapist you are matched with. Most fully licensed, experienced therapists will charge between $130-$150+ HST per individual 50-minute session. Many insurance companies will cover some of the costs of your therapy sessions - check your benefits! For those who illustrate financial need, some of our therapists offer a select number of sliding scale or affordable counselling slots. We will discuss finances in your initial consultation to determine a good financial fit!

  • Pacing is determined client-by-client, but in every scenario, we work to find a pace that is personally and financially comfortable for you. You will never be obligated to attend every week or commit to a given time-slot. As a general rule, for cases that are more acute, we typically recommend the client attends more frequently. Further, if a client is comfortable doing so, it is typically beneficial to attend the first few therapy sessions on a somewhat frequent basis (weekly or biweekly) so that you and your therapist can get the ball rolling. It’s important that your therapist has time to get-to-know you before they begin to dive into the goals you have for therapy. Healing takes time and some clients may need more time to heal and grow than others. We are here to help find a path that works for you.

  • Don’t worry, it happens! We’re all human and sometimes we just don’t click with everyone. We want to make sure you feel good about the therapist you work with. If you don’t, there’s no pressure or obligation to continue and we don’t take it personally 😊 If you’d like to try a re-match, just reach out our clinical coordinator team at inquiry@reboundtotalhealth.ca and we’ll look at other options!

  • No, you don’t! Clients are able to self-refer, meaning we don’t require any referrals from any other health practitioners.

  • We understand life happens and sometimes you may be unable to attend your booked therapy session. At Rebound we have a 48-hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel or reschedule, simply email your therapist to let them know more than 48 hours before the appointment.

  • On our mission to make therapy more accessible and convenient, we offer a variety of booking options. We have therapists offering morning, day, evening and weekend availability! During your initial therapy consultation, we discuss your ideal availability in order to find a therapist that offers session availability that matches your needs. We offer convenient online booking as well to make booking faster! Not tech savy? No problem! You can email to book, or simply book at the end of each session!

  • Each client and each session is different. During your sessions, you and your therapist will chat about what is going on in your life and discuss specific problems you’re experiencing. Your therapist may ask you questions, provide you with helpful information, or engage in specific exercises to help guide you. No, you won’t have to lay down on a couch - unless you want to!

  • Your first session acts as an extension of our first phone chat. The first session is an opportunity for the client and therapist to get to know one another better and develop goals for growth. We’ll ask basic questions about you, your background and your current life situation, and you’ll be able to ask us any questions that you have. The first session is also a great time to set some goals together!

  • Confidentiality is a key aspect of developing a trusting relationship with your therapist. In your first session, your therapist will discuss their confidentiality agreement with you and detail any limits to your privacy. We will give you all the details you need to feel safe and confident that your information is being kept private and secure.

  • 1. Communicate. Want to slow down? Feeling uncomfortable? Ready to go further? Let us know - the more we know, the better we can help you.

    2. Be honest. We provide a safe, welcoming and judgement-free space for you to disclose information and your honesty helps us identify and tackle the issues that need to be resolved.

    3. Be consistent. Maintaining punctuality and attendance is a key factor in reaching your goals.

  • Once you’ve made the decision to start therapy, your therapist will be in regular communication with you to orchestrate next steps. If you still have questions, you can reach out to us via call, email or our online form. Otherwise, go right a head and book your free consultation. This consultation is necessary to help your therapist get to know you better! After this preliminary call, you and your therapist will arrange your first session when you’re ready!
