MEET YOUR THERAPIST

Kathryn Tousaw

Registered Psychotherapist

I am an Art Therapist (DTATI), RP and Independent contractor here at Rebound Total Health. have always been drawn to people and understanding more about them than just what is on the surface. I love meaningful connection, interesting conversation, and getting to really know people. I am also an artsy, creative, yogi type. In my down time you’ll find me relaxed on the couch with something to occupy my hands: knitting, sewing, painting, drawing, or doodling. Homemade holiday cards are my personal fave!

I’ve known for a long time that I wanted a career in really listening to people. My own experience in therapy has only solidified that. I value supporting people in their own personal growth, and I am so grateful to my clients for allowing me the privilege to be a part of their journey.

Sometimes our feelings just don't have words, and that is okay.

My job is to support you in accessing some of those hard to reach places so that you can learn about yourself and figure out what gives you a sense of freedom, vibrancy, and meaning in your life.

Working With Me

I am an easy, go-with-the-flow therapist. I want my clients to feel like it’s okay to show up just as they are, and to feel safe to do so. I want to meet you where you are at today to help find a way of approaching therapy that is going to work the best for you.

Worth Mentioning

As clients decide who they want to work with for counselling, there’s lots to take into consideration! Here are some additional perks you should know of!

  1. Flexible Modalities: I know that therapy is not the same for everyone. I value using a variety of therapeutic modalities to work towards client success. Something not working for you? Let me know! I am always open to hearing your feedback.

  2. Creativity! This applies to talk therapy as well! Whether it’s a creative way of explaining a concept, a creative way of exploring different perspectives, or simply finding a different way of approaching therapy that is going to be unique to you.

  3. Comfort: I feel strongly about helping clients to feel physically and emotionally comfortable. This can mean cozying up on the couch, having opportunities to laugh and talk about your interests, or simply my down-to-earth conversational style of therapy.

What does a session with me look like?

In an art therapy session, you can expect to do some creative things! No art experience required – there is no such thing as being “good” or “bad” at art in my eyes. For art therapy or talk therapy, I love to do a check in to see where you are at, and what your week has brought you. Throughout sessions, I’ll ask you questions to delve deeper into the things that have brought you to therapy, and perhaps offer a creative or mindfulness exercise to help you explore that deeper. I offer lots of education and strategies to work through different challenges, with real life examples. I totally believe in practice what you preach, so I often work with clients on strategies I have used myself.

“Art is not always about pretty things. It’s about who we are, what happened to us, and how our lives are affected.”

- Elizabeth Broun

My Approach

My approach to therapy is creative and free-flowing and aims to meet you exactly where you are at. I wholeheartedly believe that you are the expert on you and your life. My role is to help you uncover those parts of you that will help you to thrive.

Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy

Understand and explore experiences of past or present trauma, and how they impact your overall health and wellbeing. The beginning of trauma-informed psychotherapy is focused on building a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship before exploring experiences of trauma.

Art Therapy

Using the creative process to explore therapeutic healing. The process of creating with different materials can lend itself to exploration of different themes in treatment, as well as the product of what we have created can be a source of exploration into ourselves and our experiences.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

Working with you to build safety, understand triggers, and build skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, effectiveness in interpersonal relationships, and skills in managing emotions.

Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP is a behavioural therapy which involves exposure to anxieties and fears incrementally within a safe environment. ERP helps our brains to understand that we are safe, even when our fears and anxieties tell us we are not.
