MEET YOUR THERAPIST

Mecheala

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Hi! I’m Mecheala! I come from a background of volunteering at medical settings, such as offering emotional support at cancer and dialysis units, emotional distress helplines, and administrative work at mental health clinics. I have worked with all types of individuals ranging from kiddos and young adults on the spectrum to supporting family members who have a loved one with a severe mental illness. I also have experience in hosting psychoeducational events and peer support groups. I am on my path to extending my love for helping others in medicine.

Working With Me

I love to collaborate with my clients and want to make sure that they are making choices in their treatment plan all along the way. I’d love for my clients to feel calm and centered at the end of a session or for them to feel like they had a “wow that makes sense” moment.

Worth Mentioning

As clients decide who they want to work with for counselling, there’s lots to take into consideration! Here are some additional perks you should know of!
1.     Accommodating.
I am always open to modifying sessions and getting creative to meet your needs and comfort level for the day.

2.     Comforting: I like to use a calm tone and positive outlook to make you feel at ease.

3.     Leading: If you can't organize your thoughts, feelings, or goals- don’t worry, I would love to guide you.

What does a session with me look like?

I love my sessions-whether virtual or in person to have a self-care vibe where you know you will leave feeling better than when you came in. I typically start with a mindfulness video or grounding activity that sets us up for a session that’s all about you. Depending on the session and if you are open to it, you may engage in an activity or exercise that promotes you to expand or organize your thinking and thoughts.

My Approach

We usually begin with using various creative (or non creative) ways of hearing your story, learning your strengths, struggles, wants and needs. We then explore where you would like to see yourself and begin to create a plan on how you can get there and what types of barriers you may face, as to prepare you. I tend to lean towards solution-focused approaches once we have a set of goals identified.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Gain a better understanding of how thoughts, emotions, and behavior interact with one another and how those interactions keep us stuck in unhelpful patterns or negative thinking feedback loops. Also, examining and challenging one’s core beliefs about themselves, others, and the world can increase sustainable and positive change.

Narrative Therapy

Helps you separate yourself from the problem, that way you can explore the meanings that were placed on your past experiences and help speak your truth.

Strength Based

Discover and develop your strengths and unique talents. This approach is not problem-focused, but instead involves positivity and empowerment to discover your strengths and apply them to your life.

Solution-Focused

A goal-directed, collaborative approach aimed at addressing your current problems and providing adequate solutions based on your lifestyle. Together, we will develop solutions instead of focusing primarily on problems.
