MEET YOUR THERAPIST

Stella Thiru

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Hi! I’m Stella! My journey began with a fascination for human behaviour, leading to work as an educational assistant and behavioural therapist. These roles gave me insights into the needs of neurodiverse individuals and ignited my commitment to psychotherapy.

With a South Asian origin, I understand the challenges of balancing North American life with cultural norms and related anxieties. My experiences shaped my worldview, emphasizing the importance of Mental Health support in diverse communities. Individuals can make changes throughout their healing journey but sometimes need assistance navigating life’s challenges. Wherever you are on your healing journey, together, we will navigate your inner world, uncover hidden strengths, and illuminate new paths.

“In life’s journey, our stories are intricately woven with the threads of our cultural backgrounds and upbringings. Not everyone's path celebrates autonomy, authenticity, and the power of therapy. I am here to help you embrace individuality, heal, and discover your true self. Let's navigate this journey together.”

My Approach

My therapeutic approach is rooted in unwavering client-centered care and a strength-based context characterized by a deep commitment to cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed practices, anti-oppressive principles, and wholehearted affirmation of LGBTQIA2S+ identities. I offer an inclusive and holistic framework, seamlessly integrating various psychological modalities. These encompass Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Humanistic and Person-Centered, Solution-Focused Therapy (SFBT) while incorporating Mindfulness, with the primary goal of collaborating with individuals to become the best versions of themselves, providing a compassionate and comprehensive foundation for your healing journey.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is effective in addressing and changing unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours. I would use CBT as a structured, goal-oriented approach to help clients identify negative thought patterns, challenge irrational beliefs, and develop healthier coping strategies, focusing on problem-solving and building practical skills for managing emotional challenges.

Person-Centered Therapy

Person-centered therapy, also known as humanistic therapy, effectively promotes self-awareness and self-acceptance. In this approach, I would create a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their feelings and experiences, actively listening and empathizing to help them gain insight into their own emotions and foster personal growth.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)

Solution-focused brief therapy is effective for clients seeking short-term, goal-oriented counselling. In this approach, I would work collaboratively with clients to identify their strengths and resources while assisting them in defining and working towards achievable solutions to their challenges, making it particularly valuable for individuals seeking to enact specific changes or set clear, immediate goals.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-based therapy effectively promotes emotional regulation, stress reduction, and overall well-being. I would integrate mindfulness techniques into therapy sessions to help clients cultivate awareness of their thoughts and emotions, develop present-moment focus, and build resilience, with a particular emphasis on its potential benefits for individuals grappling with anxiety, depression, or chronic stress.
