MEET YOUR THERAPIST

Vanessa Krause

Registered Psychotherapist

Hi! I’m Vanessa!

I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and Independent Contractor here at Rebound Total Health. My background includes over ten years of client-centered work experience which has taught me the importance of taking a dynamic and holistic approach to each situation. I always knew I would end up in a counselling-type profession, and my journey to this point has provided me with invaluable perspectives that guide my current practice. I believe firmly in the power of community and connection in one’s healing journey. So, congratulations on taking this first step! My priority is to offer support in a capacity that is safe and constructive for you. If you think you and I may be a good fit, I would love to hear from you!

Life can feel overwhelming at times and when things get hard, it may seem that no one truly understands. I believe that human connection paves the way for growth and understanding.

Working With Me

My goal as a therapist is to build connection. The most powerful change happens when we feel safe and supported, so I strive to hold authentic and meaningful space with my clients.

Worth Mentioning

As clients decide who they want to work with for counselling, there’s lots to take into consideration! Here are some additional perks you should know of!

  1. Open-Minded: My work in mediation has taught me the value of neutrality and how keeping an open mind can create space for collaborative problem-solving and discovery. I approach therapy with compassion and without judgement.

  2. Scientifically Informed: I am a curious, life-long learner so my approach to therapy is informed by ongoing professional development and up to date research.

  3. Accessibility: I am flexible when it comes to bookings, session formats and therapeutic approaches!

What does a session with me look like?

When meeting with me, my first task is to ensure we have a mutual understanding of what a safe therapeutic space looks like for you. This may include, potential treatment goals, appropriate/inappropriate language, confidentiality, triggers or coping strategies. As our time together progresses, I have found it helpful to have regular check-ins to promote healthy communication and make sure we’re on the same page! Often, sessions can bring up fresh insights and emotions, so it is important to take inventory of progress made and initial goals.

My Approach

First and foremost, I integrate a person-centered approach into each modality or therapeutic orientation. This means that instead of leading clients through their journey, I will walk alongside you because no one understands your position like you do. You can expect ongoing collaboration from me, so feel free to discuss what has worked for you in the past, what hasn’t, or something new you’d like to try and let’s work together! Those I have worked with in the past describe me as genuine, warm, curious and a bit quirky.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

In order to address certain adverse behaviours, we must first understand the relationships between our thoughts, feelings and physical reactions. These function differently for everyone but as we explore the functions of distorted thinking, we are able to disrupt unhelpful patterns and develop the skills to cope in a way that is healthy for you.

Family Systems Therapy

As we seek to understand ourselves, it can be beneficial to better understand the network of relationships around us. Family Systems Therapy uncovers emotional and behavioural patterns within family units and takes into consideration the societal and environmental factors also at play. This approach focuses on how relationships function as a system, instead of focusing on a single person and is beneficial to individuals, couples and families.

Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

This approach is a subtype of CBT and focuses on identifying external triggers and replacing them with more desirable coping mechanisms or responses. This intervention works well for those working through heightened emotional reactions or impulsive behaviour as it focuses on acceptance and validation.

Humanistic Psychology

The basis of this approach lies with emphasizing an individual’s strengths, growth and potential. Utilizing a humanistic perspective, we understand that people are inherently good and have the capacity to change their lives for the better. Given suitable conditions and opportunities, we strive to do better for ourselves and reach a place of fulfillment.
