Accessing some Affirmations

Affirmations. You may have heard of them before. But what are they? And what do they do?

Put simply, an affirmation is a positive statement used to validate the self and can improve self-esteem. Seems pretty easy, right? Well, sometimes affirmations can be challenging for those with low self-esteem and take practice!

How do affirmations work?

Affirmations work based on the self-affirmation theory.  This theory is rooted in the idea that we can maintain and improve our sense of self by affirming what we believe in positive ways. Also, how we use our brain, changes our brain. For example, if we think more positive thoughts, our brains can adopt new automatic responses which leads to less negative automatic thoughts!

What are the benefits of affirmations?

There are many benefits to practicing affirmations. The most important benefits of practicing affirmations that resonate with me are defying negative self-talk/thoughts, help overcome anxiety and increase our sense of self.

How do you practice affirmations?

To make the most out of affirmations - practice is key! Essentially, we want to have positive affirmations practiced daily. Try it out in the morning after a shower in the mirror. Tell yourself 5 positive statements about yourself. Repeat those positive statements again. Take a minute to let that affirmation sink into your mind.

Give me some examples!

I am exactly where I need to be right now.

I am loved and deserve love just the way I am.

I am grateful for my ability to learn and improve.

I am grateful for the challenges that help me grow.

I am thankful for my body that carries me each day.
